FOREST TOWN 3-2 POTENTIAL SQUAD
The first game back from the winter break pitted the 2nd and 3rd placed teams against each other and this was one of the most anticipated games of the season with a lot at stake. The winners would close the gap at the top to Prohawks, whereas the losers would be virtually out of the title race, a draw would see Prohawks extend their narrow lead further. The game started and Potential dominated the early passage of play but could not find any success in front of goal against the formidable back line of Forest Town. After missing several opportunities to score, Forest Town eventually got the breakthrough in the game when Shaban pounced on a loose ball and punished the Potential boys by slotting the ball into the bottom corner. A deserved lead and although they had more opportunities to extend their lead further, this was to be the only goal of the half in this tight contest. Potential looked out of sorts and did not play with their usual swagger. The second half started and within the first minute a high challenge from Zain the captain of the Forest Town team, resulted in a melee with both teams squaring up to each other. Eventually the referee calmed things down and gave Sanad from Potential Squad a 2 minutes’ sin bin. This seemed to rile up the Potential boys and from the resulting free kick, Captain Fahad equalised for his team with a bullet of a shot into the top corner. Potential had finally woken up and looked like they were about to go onto clinch the game. A few missed chances for either side and some great goal keeping from both keepers ensured the scored remained level for the next 10 minutes. However, in the big games it’s always about who wants it more and once again this season, Forest Town showed their strength and took the lead. A long range pass from the gifted Omz, went over the Potential backline and was bought down well by Zain with his first touch, with the second touch the ball was in the top corner. A great goal, almost Bergkamp-esqe from the Captain. Forest Town were cruising and a few moments later they increased their lead further and again it was Zain, at the forefront of everything good going forward for Forest Town. This time, he beat his marker easily and smashed the ball into the bottom corner. Potential looked demoralised and knew they were heading for defeat. With literally the last kick of the game, Azhad scored a long range shot into the top corner to finish the game 3-2. What a win for Forest Town and with two games to go against the two bottom teams, they will be hoping Prohawks lose a game to take advantage and look to secure their first ever title in the Community Leagues.
JFC 6-5 HFA
Champions JFC were up against HFA in what is always a closely contested game. HFA started the better of the two teams and it was that man again, Yasin the league’s top scorer putting HFA in front. This seemed to wake JFC up abit and they got back into the game when Azz smashed the ball in from close range. A quick double from Faz put JFC 3-1 up and before the half time interval Humza got onto the scoresheet to increase JFC’s lead. 40-1 up at half time and JFC were cruising but you can never think the game is over with HFA, as they always seem to come back. This game was no different. As soon as the 2nd half had started, HFA were back into the game when Owais go onto the scoresheet and moments later Mohammed got onto the scoresheet to close the gap to 4-3. Both teams were going at it and the next goal would be crucial. It came 10 minutes into the second half and it was Humza getting his second of the game with a well taken strike into the bottom corner. From the resulting kick off the HFA centre back went on a mazy run and buried the ball into the net to make it 5-4. In the dying minutes JFC got another goal with Azz getting his second of the game to all but kill the tie. With the last kick off the game, HFA got their 5th goal coming from Mohammed again and the referee blew for full time. JFC hanging onto their slender lead and moving closer to 3rd place. HFA showing signs of their old self again, with the season coming closer to the end they will be looking to rebuild for the new season.
IG1 4-1 AC MILANO
IG1 fielding a depleted squad again came up against a strong AC Milano team looking to bounce back from their narrow defeat to Prohawks the week before. The game started in blistering fashion with IG1 getting an early goal to settle their nerves when a mistake at the back let in Mohammed to slot the ball home. This seemed to have woken up Milano and just before the half time break they levelled when their top score Zeashan got on the scoresheet. 1-1 and all to play for in the second half. The second half started in pretty much the same fashion as the first as both teams were playing end to end football. Some crucial saves for the IG1 keeper kept them in the game and just as Milano were looking the mire likely to score, they were sucker punched on the counter-attack. This time it was captain Rajab getting in on the act by scoring from long range. 2-1 and IG1 were growing into the game. They increased their lead further when Mohammed got his second of the game and with a few minutes left on the clock, centre back Akeel scored his first goal of the season. Although Milano pushed to get that second goal in the game, they could not break through the IG1 defence and the result ended 4-1 to IG1. A great game for the neutrals.
PROHAWKS 25-0 FC UNITED
Prohawks, top of the league and looking to maintain their winning streak further came up against bottom of the league FC United. In the corresponding fixture earlier in the season, Prohawks beat FC United 12-1 and on this night, they were looking to do something similar again. And as expected the all-out attack of Prohawks started the quicker of the 2 teams and within 5 minutes of the start it was already 5-0 to Prohawks. Shambolic defending, sluggish passing and carelessness from FC United resulted in the ruthless Prohawks team taking their chances. It was question of how many they’d score on the night. the half time score was 12-0 to Prohawks. The biggest victory in Community Leagues history took place in March 2014 when Los Galacticos defeated Red Army 18-2. Prohawks were closing in on the biggest victory and when the second half started, they continued where they had left off. By the end of the night, the game finished 25-0, an unbelievable amount of goals in a 45 minute game and Prohawks the record breakers had totally ripped FC United apart. Goals on the night came from: Arif (7), Pele (4), Aswat (4), Mohammed (4), Uzair (4) and one each from Ollie and Yahya. This result ensured Prohawks remain top of the league with 2 games to go and if they win both, they will win the league for the first time. The way in which they have been scoring for fun recently. Who would bet against them….
Another great week of football full of twists and great goals. Come back in the New Year for more big games. Only at Community Leagues.
